My fiancé and I recently visited the White Horse in King’s Sutton in the Cotswolds for lunch together, and it turned out to be exactly the kind of relaxing lunch we’d been hoping for en-route to the chaos of Heathrow from our home in Staffordshire.
The pub has a traditional, familiar feel, helped along by its open fire, which burns all year round. It gives the place that classic cosy-pub atmosphere, the sort that makes you want to take your time and settle in properly.
We decided to try the truffle and honey baked Camembert to start, having heard it was a good option for two at just £10 each. When it arrived, it was larger than expected. It provides more than enough for two people without feeling excessive. Despite the generous portion, the price was very reasonable. The cheese was smooth and mild, and the selection of breads was an added bonus.
The setting added to the sense of ease. The low lighting, background chatter, and crackling log fire created a fabulous countryside Cotswolds experience. Lunch was served with a smile and in a timely fashion for us two who had a plane to catch. While here for a few hours though, we were able to pause for a moment and relax in this oldy-worldy building, all low-ceilings and wooden beams, off-set by a village of stone cottages with thatched roofs.
We found it welcoming and satisfying with the Camembert and bread sharer at the White Horse being the best – this is your sign to visit.
