The TerrainHopper, which Yorkshire charity Access the Dales puts on for wheelchair users free of charge, is an impressive all-terrain wheelchair designed to provide accessibility in rugged environments like the Yorkshire Dales. Here are some highlights I found:
Off-Road Capability: The TerrainHopper excels in challenging terrains, including deep mud, sand, snow, and rocky paths. It has a ground clearance of 250mm and can climb slopes up to 35 degrees.
User Experience: Users appreciate the freedom and independence it offers, allowing them to explore areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. The adjustable seating and control options (joystick or handlebar) enhance comfort and usability.
Events and Try-Outs: Access the Dales organizes events where users can test the TerrainHopper in real-world conditions, such as at Gordale Scar in Malhamdale. These events provide a hands-on experience and allow potential users to see the TerrainHopper’s capabilities first-hand.
Safety and Support: The TerrainHopper is designed with safety in mind, featuring robust construction and reliable performance. Access the Dales also provides guidance and support to ensure users can safely enjoy their adventure.
I traveled on a TerrainHopper with Access the Dales free of charge and you can too at a variety of spots in Yorkshire, or like me, around The Forest of Bowland. To find out how visit access-the-dales.com and learn more about the stunning Forest of Bowland at www.forestofbowland.com
