Erica and I returned from a wheelchair accessible winter sun break in the Algarve late last Thursday, booking the cheapest Ryanair flights we could afford to head to Faro (£70 return trip each). We stayed in Quinta Do Lago which we liked as it’s only a 50-years old resort, so all newly built and flat. As its famous for golf there were a lot of accessible roads for golf buggies which Paul accessed using a scooter (we hired this for 90euros for three days). It is a very exclusive place (Coleen & Wayne Rooney have a place there as well as Steven Gerrard!), however we found affordable options for all budgets with a few cheaper EasyJet packages and at the nearby accessible Hotel Pinhal Do Sol starts at £46 a night! Opposite is me on my scooter I hired too – I was impressed I got up to 12 miles an hour on it! We stayed in the Wyndham Grand Algarve which has only spacious, self-catering suites – perfect for wheelchairs with their roll-in showers and level access patios. Visit www.quintadolago.com/en/ for more information on the resort.
